Summer Solstice
Summer Solstice is a half-scale garment designed by using a collection of common shapes to construct the pattern. This product aims to produce off-the-body shapes and innovative fabric manipulation. The entire design was hand-sewn, embellished and painted. There are five different fabrics used in the design each with different qualities in terms of weight, feel, and stretch. I began by drawing inspiration from the two objects in nature and pulled elements from the color, movement, and textures of the objects. Then I created five different design concepts out of paper, then selected one for my final design. I then created a fabric prototype of the garment that I wanted to design, I began creating the final garment by painting all of the fabric and embellishing certain sections. I had to account for how each fabric type bled and held the color of the paints. Once all the pattern pieces were colored I began to handsew the garment together.
